Family Counseling Counselors


 
Joanna Berry, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), is Vice President of Family Counseling and International Childcare at South Texas Children’s Home Ministries (STCHM). She counsels individuals and married couples in the Corpus Christi office and is fluent in Spanish. She is married and has three children and ten grandchildren. Joanna leads marriage enrichment and parenting workshops. She also organizes and leads several STCHM international mission trips each year and loves to encourage families and couples to share a mission experience together.


 


 
Lil Abshier, LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker), has been with South Texas Children's Home Ministries since 1978. She is Director of Family Outreach, where she coordinates Education Service Center (ESC) Conferences, family care, and the Christian Women’s Job Corps of Corpus Christi program which offers 12-week job readiness classes in Spring and Fall for women. Lil speaks to churches and groups and represents South Texas Children's Home Ministries from the unique perspective of having been the youngest in the first family group of children received into care at STCHM. Lil is married with three children and two grandchildren.
 


 

  Judy Bolton, M.Ed., LPC, (Licensed Professional Counselor) has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Education Counseling from the University of Houston-Victoria. Her experience in the mental health field includes counseling and play therapy in public schools; casework, diagnostics and counseling with all ages in a community mental health center; and group therapy with geriatric patients in a hospital setting. Judy and her husband have two adult sons.
 


 


 
Darin Griffiths, MA, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), is Director of Education and Ministry. Darin received his Master’s in Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He is licensed and ordained as a Southern Baptist minister and has served as a student minister in several churches prior to coming to South Texas Children's Home Ministries. He is married and has two young children. Darin specializes in counseling couples who are experiencing marital difficulty. He leads marriage enrichment seminars as well as parenting seminars.  
  Diane Gryseels, LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker), has been with South Texas Children's Home Ministries since 1966. She has three adopted children, a foster daughter, and six grandchildren. She excels in relating to children, teenagers and women through counseling. Diane has been a guest speaker at many churches, workshops, family-skills seminars, singles seminars, retreats, and recovery classes.
 

 
Lorena Mendez, MS, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), has her Master’s in Counseling from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She has a beautiful son who keeps her happily busy. The majority of Lorena’s counseling is with children, parents and women. She enjoys facilitating teen workshops and speaking to groups on topics that deal with parenting issues. She also has specialized training in play therapy for children. Lorena serves on the Board as President Elect for the Coastal Bend Association for Play Therapy.  
  Bill Middleton, MS, LPCS, RPTS (Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist and Supervisor), is Clinical Director for STCHM Family Counseling. Bill is also a licensed minister. He is married and has two sons and two grandchildren. Bill counsels with individuals, families, couples and groups. He works well with children and incorporates play therapy when the need is there. Bill conducts training classes in both child management and marriage enrichment. He serves on the Board as Past President for the Coastal Bend Association for Play Therapy.
 
Lorraine Turner, MA, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor), has her Master’s Degree from the University of Houston-Victoria. Lorraine worked with children, adolescents and adults at a MHMR center for several years before joining the South Texas Children’s Home Ministry counseling staff. She has specialized training in the area of play therapy. Lorraine now counsels couples with marital issues, individual adults, teenagers, and children and their families. Lorraine is married and has two children.
