Mission Trip Highlights to the Dominican Republic

Medical Clinics

  • Four U.S. doctors and one Dominican doctor treated 1,658 people in ten clinics held in homes, a community center, a school, under trees and even at a city dump.
  • Two U.S. doctors traveled to two villages to treat children with no hope of receiving medical care.
  • Dispensed donated medications, children’s vitamins and prenatal vitamins.
  • Expanded medical efforts in the D.R. by taking several medical teams each year to provide medical care in areas of great need.


Dental Clinics

  • Treated 295 children in six different dental clinics; 80% needed fillings and there were numerous extractions.
  • Educated families about dental hygiene and prevention.
  • Provided toothbrushes and toothpaste for all children treated.
  • Established a more permanent, fully furnished dental mission facility with A/C, two dental chairs and an ADEC unit with 2 hand pieces.
  • Now taking dental teams back to the D.R. a couple of times each year.


Children’s Ministry and Childcare Teams

  • Presented program of puppets, crafts and games at two orphanages and a school.
  • Delivered donated clothing, children’s items and $1,800 worth of food, supplies, new clothing and two mattresses (purchased with donated funds).
  • Passed out Spanish New Testaments.
  • Presented a growing church with a new projector.
  • Delivered food to orphans living in stark poverty
  • Took children from the La Romana Home shopping for new school clothes.
  • Blessed Jackie’s Children’s Home and Rose Elena’s School for the poor with lots of love and needed supplies.
  • Provided prepackaged craft work for 6,400 children for a massive Vacation Bible School effort in Santo Domingo.
  • A combined workforce of 264, which included a U.S. mission team and members of Iglesia Bautista Quisqueyana, held simultaneous Vacation Bible Schools in 18 different locations (average daily attendance of 1,968 and 560 decisions for Christ made by children over age 7).
  • Visited in households of children sponsored by Samuel’s Fund, STCHM’s international child sponsorship program.
  • Expanded ministry to include additional children’s homes within the D.R.

 

Construction Efforts

  • Built and painted children’s desks and bookshelves.
  • Provided materials and labor to build 50 large benches for a church.
  • Built a new chapel in El Bambu; reached out to the community and held chapel dedication service.
  • Provided septic tank and new sanitary facilities for household of orphans living with a young relative.
  • Built furnishings for new dental facility for future STCHM dental missions.
  • Building a new building and restroom facilities for Rose Elena’s Christian school for impoverished children.
     

     

 


Training for Teachers and Parents

  • Held teacher training and workshops to help Dominican teachers gain new skills and strategies.
  • Provided nutritional instruction for parents and teachers to follow-up dental and medical efforts.
