In 1952 Laura Boothe Overby shared a vision she had for an "orphans' home" with the Rev. Jess Lunsford. With Laura's land, Jess' leadership, and God's plan, a ministry was birthed in rural Bee County - a ministry that would become home to thousands of children over the next-half-century and beyond.

From the time of its creation, the leadership of South Texas Children’s Home Ministries (STCHM) decided to accept no government funding and incur no debt. STCHM began to grow. Cottages were constructed and children came from throughout South Texas to find a home full of love and compassion.

Under the leadership of Dr. A.J. "Jack" Green, Jr., the second CEO, the ministry grew to include a childcare campus in Goliad. STCH Ministries would later expand to include a family counseling ministry in Corpus Christi designed to combat the degeneration of the family. Through Dr. Green's leadership, STCHM flourished, as did the children under its care.

Over the years, many children and families have been touched with the love of God shown through those who minister at South Texas Children’s Home Ministries. Devoted houseparents, caseworkers, counselors, sponsors, and many others who support the ministry have prayed for and loved the children who came to live at STCHM from throughout the state of Texas.

Many of the children once cared for by STCH Ministries are now parents and grandparents. The love and support they experienced at STCHM is now touching second and third generations. Former STCHM children are now filling places of leadership throughout the country. From business leaders to mothers and everyone in between, those who once called South Texas Children’s Home Ministries home are passing on the love of Christ as it was shown to them during the time they spent here.
