A new program sponsored by South Texas Children’s Home Ministries (STCHM) is giving women the encouragement, hope and confidence they need to turn life around.

Christian Women’s Job Corps of Corpus Christi (CWJC) is a 12-week program of classes sponsored by South Texas Children’s Home Ministries to help women grow spiritually and personally as they move toward self-sufficiency. The program is a Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) ministry. It includes Bible study, computer classes, classes in job readiness, classes on nutrition and women’s health issues, and sessions to build interpersonal skills. Participants in the program are also paired with mentors who will continue to interact with the women for at least one year.

STCHM provides the facility, staffing and some financial support to ensure the success of the new program, while numerous community and church volunteers contribute to every aspect of what the program offers. CWJC of Corpus Christi became a reality with the faithful help of some 120 individuals from twenty-seven churches who volunteered a total of 2,000 hours. Their efforts included physical labor to prepare the facility and serving as presenters, instructors, office help, prayer supporters, mentors, lunch providers, and donors of monetary and material gifts. Volunteers continue to play a major role in the daily success of the program.

CWJC of Corpus Christi offers its 12-week program in the Spring and the Fall each year. The classes conclude with a graduation ceremony to celebrate what is a new beginning for many of the women.
